The Restricted Index is a first-person narrative puzzle game about censorship, truth and the preservation of knowledge.
In an alt-future Britain, knowledge is controlled, censored, and quietly erased. After every other library has been shut down, only one remains. You are assigned the role of its custodian – the last librarian.
Your job begins simply, learn the ropes, search the catalogues and retrieve requested books. New challenges emerge as patrons arrive with half-remembered titles, obscure subjects or the names of forgotten authors. Players must piece together incomplete clues using the card catalogues to identify the right books.
Beneath these daily dilemmas lie deeper mysteries, the unexplained disappearance of the previous librarian, an underground network fighting to expose government lies and countless other secrets hidden in the stacks. Clues lead the player deeper and deeper into the stories of the locals and expose larger political forces shaping the world.
